The Communes involved in this route include: Calosso, Canelli, Cassinasco, Loazzolo, Moasca and San Marzano Oliveto. Two of these are also part of the "Langa Astigiana" route, since they are positioned on the southern slopes and are therefore similar to the other mountain area localities, while those on the northern slopes have a strong affinity with the dominant winegrowing activity in the Belbo valley.
The main access points pass through Canelli, the largest centre in the Valle Belbo, which is accessed to the west from Alba; to the east from Alessandria and Nizza Monferrato; from the north on the Asti-Canelli state road, along a ridge running between Calosso and Moasca.
These lands are called golden because they are decorated with splendid bunches of Moscato d'Asti grapes, the true symbol of this route. The road at the top of the hill which runs from Canelli, passing through Sant'Antonio and Ceirole, heads for Calosso and provides visitors with superb panoramic views, passing some of the best vineyards for this vine. In Loazzolo Moscato is harvested late, forming a rare and precious wine: Loazzolo DOC. The territory's other denominations are Moscato d'Asti DOCG and Asti DOCG. Gathering white truffles is also an important activity.
Almost all the Communes have their own historic castle and old quarters. In the Caffi di Cassinasco district there is an old sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna of the Alps. There are two public vintage wine stores: one in Canelli, serving the region and called "di Canelli e dell'Astesana"; and a municipal one in Calosso called "Crota d' Calos". The area is awash with quality restaurants. Hotel accommodation is currently being expanded.
In Cassinasco a museum is now being set up, dedicated to hazel nuts and nutty torrone, very much a local tradition. In Canelli the Cantine Contratto Museum is now open.
The most important outdoor event is the recreation of the historic Siege of Canelli (third week-end in June).
