In astigiano dialect "bricchi" means hills, or more specifically those hills that are particularly suitable for quality vineyards due to their steepness and exposure. This name has therefore been used to define a short route, essentially circular, with three main access points: to the north from Castello d'Annone along the Asti-Alessandria state road and the motorway with the Asti East exit or Felizzano, from the south on the Nizza-Incisa-Alessandria road, from the west along the Valtiglione to Mombercelli.
The Communes involved include Belveglio, Castello d'Annone, Cerro Tanaro, Cortiglione, Mombercelli and Rocchetta Tanaro. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty, hosting the Rocchetta Tanaro nature park, with lots of woodland and forests and the banks of the River Tanaro. A small museum dedicated to the river, truffles and ampelography has been set up in Rocchetta Tanaro, the birthplace of one of Italy's greatest experts in wine-growing, Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta.
The itinerary keeps almost entirely to the high hills, exploring particularly outstanding countryside. The territory also includes lots of castles. These are all private though it is possible to visit them on occasion. In fact one of them, in Belveglio, hosts music concerts, a second, in Rocchetta Tanaro, now hosts a congress centre and a third, in Mombercelli, has been converted into a modern art gallery.
Hotels and restaurants are all of the very best quality. Wines, vegetables, medicinal herbs, mustards, cold cuts, high quality meat from the indigenous Piedmont cattle breed are all produced in the area.
