The Communes involved in this route include Asti (with the outlying wards of Montemarzo, San Marzanotto and Valle Tanaro), Azzano, Isola d'Asti, Mongardino, Montaldo Scarampi, Montegrosso, Rocca d'Arazzo and Vigliano d'Asti. Of these Isola is also included in another route ("Lauretum") for part of its territory, while the part involved in the present route concerns the production area for "Colli Astiani", a sub-denomination of Barbera d'Asti DOC.
This is a short eight point circuit, touring the hills that flank the right bank of the River Tanaro, set amidst superb natural beauty and dotted with castles and historic towers.
The largest village is Montegrosso, in the centre of the Valtiglione, which is also one of the route access points. Another access point is located at the exit from the city of Asti: after the bridge over the Tanaro, going towards the large hilly rampart that delimits, in its steep rocky outline, the wide river valley on the southern side, climbing to the summit at San Marzanotto. Those arriving from the motorway at the Asti East motorway tollgate can easily access the circuit from Isola d'Asti; from the Felizzano motorway tollgate it is possible to access Rocca d'Arazzo, passing through the village of Castello d'Annone.
The most famous product is undoubtedly Barbera d'Asti, while the Tanaro Valley is renowned for its flowers, with white truffles found in the damp valley bottoms.
This route can be traversed not only by car but also on horseback, by bike or even on foot. It offers excellent subjects for all amateur photographers. In Montaldo Scarampi preparation work is underway for a small museum dedicated to peasant family life. The territory's stock of vintage wines is located in Montegrosso d'Asti.
